There are a few Tight Ends I would draft in early rounds. More times than not I prefer getting another position. Drafting my Tight Ends in later rounds. I usually stream the Tight End position. This means I have two to three mid-range Tight Ends on my team rotating them each week. There is a big gap between the top five Tight Ends and everybody else. This makes it a bit harder to find their value. Here are some Tight Ends I am selling high and buying low.
Sell High
Kansas City Chiefs- Travis Kelce
If you are competing, keep Kelce on your team. If Kelce had never won a Super Bowl, he would still make it to the Hall of Fame. That is how good of a career he has had. The past 7 seasons have been dominated by Kelce. He has had over 1,000 yards each of those seasons. The last 5 he has caught over 90 passes. Over 100 receptions in 3 of those seasons. He is arguably the best talent to have in all of fantasy football. We have never seen a run of such dominance.
Like every talented super star, age becomes a factor. He will be 34 this season. I say this because if you are not a playoff team, now is the time to sell. If you do not want the draft picks, get a package of younger talent. I would trade Kelce for Tight End Dalton Kincaid and Quarterback Will Levis. Running Back Najee Harris and Tight End Trey McBride would be another duo I would accept for him. If you can add on a 2024 second to any of those deals, then do so. The point is Kelce will likely elevate any competing team, so make them pay up.
Jacksonville Jaguars- Evan Engram
Engram had a career high in receptions (73) and yards (766) this past season. He was the third best option behind Wide Receivers Christian Kirk (84 receptions) and Zay Jones (82 receptions). Wide Receiver Calvin Ridley is set to return. The team drafted reliable pass catcher Parker Washington. They also drafted Running Back Tank Bigsby. This may mean they plan to use third year Running Back Travis Etienne more in the passing game.
I think Engram will have another good season. Not a top five season, but top 16-20 season. Telling me his sell window for good return is now. If you can get a 2024 second for Engram, accept it. If you are looking for a Tight End back in return, I would trade for David Njoku. I believe Njoku will be a bigger target to Deshaun Watson than Engram is to Trevor Lawrence. If you can get the package deal of Trey McBride and Running Back Eric Gray, I would accept. With the possibility of star Running Back Saquon Barkley holding out, Gray screams value to me right now.
Pittsburgh Steelers- Pat Freiermuth
Friermuth is a solid Tight End. Last season he had the second most receptions on his team (63). I do expect second year Wide Receiver George Pickens to become the second best receiving option on the team. Last season he was third with 52 receptions. A big surprise to me was when the Steelers drafted Tight End Darnell Washington. A vertical threat with playmaking ability. He is also quick for his size allowing him to run-block down the field. Friermuth is a solid option. I am afraid he may start to see less opportunities due to the new talent around him.
For this reason, I am selling where I can. I would trade him for Running Backs Zach Charbonnet or D’Andre Swift. If you are feeling spicy trade him for Running Back Alexander Mattison. If you are looking for a Tight End back, try trading for Luke Musgrave plus a 2024 second. The Green Bay Packers lost Tight End Robert Tonyan. Musgrave may become the teams TE1 for new Quarterback Jordan Love.
Buy Low
Los Angeles Rams- Tyler Higbee
A silent threat at the Tight End position. Last season Higbee led the team in targets with 108. He quickly became Quarterback Matthew Stafford‘s second favorite target behind only Wide Receiver Cooper Kupp. Higbee is a streaming Tight End. I am not looking to start him weekly. I know though when I need to fill in the position, he is a solid option. He can bring a good 9-11 points. To me he is one of the better streaming options that could be acquired for cheap.
If I am trying to acquire Higbee then I am sending a couple 2024 fourths for him. A projected 2024 late third is not a bad move either. I am also willing to part ways with Wide Receiver Terrace Marshall or Wide Receiver Hunter Renfrow.
New Orleans Saints- Juwan Johnson
We saw Johnson come alive last season. Now he gets a Quarterback that will need to find an end zone target. Johnson has all the talent you want in the end zone. Physical body that can stretch to make the catch. Great ball security to bring down the catch. Reliable hands. He hauled in 7 touchdown passes last season. I can see him catching 7 touchdowns again. Maybe one or two more. I think he will get more than 508 yards from last season. Making him a clear buy for me.
I would try to trade a 2024 third for him. If you rather trade a player, then I would send Wide Receiver Zay Jones or Curtis Samuel for him. Truthfully both of those Wide Receivers for Johnson would be a deal I am okay with.
Buy Super Low
New York Giants- Daniel Bellinger
The new big name for the Giants is newly acquired Tight End Darren Waller. Rightfully so. Waller has showcased elite skills. He has also showed us he is not the healthiest. Missing 14 games in the last 2 seasons. The report is the Giants are still confident in second year Tight End Bellinger. If Waller goes down the starting role is all his. Bellinger could easily become a favorite target to Quarterback Daniel Jones. Which is why is buy super low window may be right now. Get him while some may be scared of the impact Waller will have on his opportunities.
If I am looking to acquire Bellinger, I am sending a 2024 third round pick for him, two if need be. I am also willing to part ways with Wide Receivers Josh Palmer or Chase Claypool. If you want to swap Tight Ends, I would send Jelani Woods for him.
New England Patriots- Mike Gesicki
The Patriots added Gesicki this off season. A season after his second worst career performance. The Patriots still seem confident in Quarterback Mac Jones. Adding Gesicki tells me they utilize their two vertical Tight Ends (Gesicki and Hunter Henry). Both can run go routes up the middle or be quick targets for Jones. Gesicki is a little bit bigger than Henry, making him the possible red zone target. Maybe, just maybe he sees the love Henry got year one with the Patriots. A year in which he saw over 600 yards and 9 touchdowns.
I would expect Gesicki does not cost much. At least less than Henry. I would be willing to trade a third-round pick for him. If you are looking to trade players, then I am sending Wide Receiver Khalil Shakir for him. If you have Running Backs Clyde Edwards-Helaire or Zamir White, send them.
Those are the Tight Ends I am targeting to buy or sell. Each league member values their players differently. You never know the value until you send a trade offer. Sometimes you might be surprised on talent you may acquire for cheaper than you thought.
