Byron Murphy II was a three-year starter at Texas as an IDL who could become an effective nose tackle/ Interior lineman in the NFL.
Murphy was drafted #16 overall (IDL1) to the Seattle Seahawks. Murphy joins a line with Leonard Williams, Dre’Mont Jones, Johnathan Hankins, and Boye Mafe. Seattle has found the second piece to their interior defensive line for years to come. Seattle had three IDLs that finished with 500+ snaps last season (Leonard Williams only participated in 10 games), so Murphy has plenty of opportunity to make an immediate impact on the field. Murphy may not be a standout player in your everyday IDP league; however, he is a name to look out for in true position formats and best-ball leagues.
Height | Weight | College |

6’0″ | 297 | Texas |
Strengths
Solid balance and power
Fast hands make his moves more effective
A bag full of pass-rushing moves/techniques for both initial and secondary rushes
Weaknesses
Murphy doesn’t have a small frame, but I am unsure if he will get much bigger.
Double teams from offensive linemen may get the best of him in the NFL
Not the most extended arm length in the draft class
College Stats
2023: 14 Games, 29 Tackles, 8.5 Tackle For Loss, 5 Sacks
2022: 13 Games, 26 Tackles, 3 Tackles For Loss, 1 Sack
2021: 7 Games, 15 Tackles, 3.5 Tackles For Loss, 2 Sack
Highlights
I’m slowly but surely warming up to the #Bears trading down and taking Byron Murphy.
At No. 9? Maybe a bit rich. But Murphy is an explosive, powerful 3-tech who can rush the passer at a high level. Those are high in demand in today’s NFL. pic.twitter.com/lOqcQQRj7M
