Here are some of the most intriguing storylines we have seen in Week 9.

Baltimore Ravens

The news here is Trenton Simpson produced a sack with 9 tackles (seven of which were solos) on an impressive 97% snap usage. That was good enough for LB3 stats on the week in 1-2-3 scoring. This also is his second straight week and can be trusted again. Simpson is worth playing again everywhere in all IDP formats, with a short week TNF matchup against the Bengals.

Cleveland Browns

Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah (JOK) is on IR and is expected to miss at least four games, with Mohamoud Diabate, as we previously reported serving as the green dot, and is your defensive playcaller during this period. Devin Bush put up sneaky stats this week with 81% snaps with 8 tackles and a sack but is the clear LB2. Bush is getting decent volume and will be a strong waiver pickup in the next couple of weeks. You could snag him early since the team is on a bye week in week 10.

Detroit Lions

Jack Campbell, as expected took over the every-down linebacker role and played 92% of snaps (only missing five)
With Malcolm Rodriguez out, getting to play next to Alex Anzalone, Campbell achieved ten tackles. Expected good volume and usage out of Campbell, as he is proving to everyone that he can do this.

Green Bay Packers

Quay Walker came back after injury, playing 100% (12 tackles), and picked up where he left off before.  Eric Wilson (74% on three tackles) was mixed in as the team’s LB2 mixing in with Edgerrin Cooper who had a healthy 72% of snaps on six tackles, Cooper being the superior prospect between the two. Isaiah McDuffie, now with 12 snaps, is the low man out of this pecking order. He’s droppable if you have not traded him like we reported in previous weeks. Eric Wilson played some snaps in the slot as well as lined up on the defensive line but did not play well in this new role, I wouldn’t be surprised to see his snaps decrease in Week 11.

Houston Texans
The green dot was given to Henry To’oTo’o and he had a down game of four tackles. This should not be expected with a 100% linebacker, so treat this first game back as a sort of mulligan game. Neville Hewitt still played a significant role, seeing 86% and recording 8 tackles, he is on his last couple of games left with players that may return from injuries, so see if you should trade him for something while you still can.

Jacksonville Jaguars

The dynamic duo of Foyesade Oluokun (90% snaps) and Devin Lloyd (77% snaps) appear to be back and both had 8 tackles. The question is if Ventrell Miller is still playable. Miller got 57% of the snaps this week and 45 snaps appear to be a lot, the stat is a misnomer due to the fact that the Jaguars were in a 3-LB set more often than usual. Because of his low usage rate, I would not recommend starting him and would use the high tackle stats as trade bait as those numbers are unsustainable.

Los Angeles Rams

Omar Speights hurt several IDP managers this week who were predicting a big week, as he only logged 4 snaps in Week 9. He did achieve 2 tackles (solo and assist) so his PFF numbers and efficiency would appear elite once again. Still, he cannot be trusted to be played at this time until we see significant snap usage.

Rozeboom became the every-down linebacker as an off-ball linebacker. Rozeboom played 98% of the snaps (all but two of them).  This marked the third game this season with 10+ tackles. In week 9, Rozeboom had a game-high 11 tackles, eight of which were solos (career high)

If you are in deep enough formats, Jaylen McCollough might be a flyer out there. His snap count was decent at 70% and had 6 tackles and an interception.

New England Patriots

Jahlani Tavai will be a popular waiver claim (again) this week as he was the LB5 in 1-2-3 scoring. Not to mention an amazing one-handed interception. He is expected to be an every-down player again moving forward.

Christian Elliss is being portrayed as a “cheat code” DL/LB designation, as he played 75% of the snaps. His snaps are at mostly linebacker with only one snap at edge per PFF. Consider what scoring format your league plays in, as he will generate tackle-premium scoring with that type of output. In sack-heavy leagues, I won’t go chasing him, as I could think of about five other players who do the same things off waivers. I would consider both players in tackle formats as secondary options.

New Orleans Saints

The news here is all about Pete Werner, he recorded eight tackles, including one for a loss in Week 9.  He led the New Orleans defense in stops and matched his second-highest tackle total of the season.

This will make 17 tackles now, over the past two games. Werner is such a roller coaster of a player, but hard to quit him as he is currently at peak value.

Demario Davis played 100% of the snaps and wore the dot as usual. The Saints run two off-ball linebackers, so Werner is playable until another injury should occur.

Tennessee Titans

Jack Gibbens anyone? For the second straight week, Gibbens played every snap and became the Titan’s highest-graded player. In Week 9, he gathered 14 tackles and .05 sacks. He is showing the coaching staff that he could be trusted here. It will be interesting to see what happens when Jerome Baker is ready to play, but Gibbens came prepared and is making a case for himself. Kenneth Murray also played every down.
