Waiver Wire Adds for Offense – Week 2

Ryan Odell and Stephen Chalmers

Well ladies and gentlemen, we are back!!! The long wait for the NFL season is over and all is right again in the fantasy world. I hope everyone had a good week one across your leagues, but I would be lying if I said everything went perfectly. Week one and we have already seen the loss of highly touted players like Aaron Rodgers and J.K. Dobbins as well as a few lingering injuries that may have hindered your week one line-up. After all week one waivers are notoriously important to the season, so let us look into a few players that could help you go forward.

Puka Nacua WR LAR: Rostered 11% (Sleeper)

With Cooper Kupp missing the first four weeks of the season with a hamstring injury, we all had a feeling someone would step up in his absence. But who would have expected a fifth-round rookie to contribute immediately with a whooping 15 targets with 10 catches and 119 yards and a 44%, yes FORTY-FOUR, target share. This will more than likely translate over the next three weeks with Kupp’s injury and in that time could win the WR2 job behind Kupp when he returns. This means Nacua could be a nice long-term investment this season.

Jakobi Meyers WR LV: Rostered 53% (Sleeper)

Now I have always had an affinity for Meyers and his talent even when he was stuck in New England with Mac Jones struggling to find his footing. Now he is opposite one of the best wide receivers in the league in Davante Adams taking attention away from Meyers so he can work on the other side of the field drawing second string cornerbacks. While I don’t expect him to out-target or out-catch Adams week in and week out this season, he flashed in his week one debut with the team catching 2 touchdowns. And without much more competition at the position I could see Meyers being a solid flex/bye-week fill-in for your roster.

Kenneth Gainwell RB PHI: Rostered 36% (Sleeper)

Despite the Eagles picking up Rashaad Penny (surprise, healthy scratch) and D’Andre Swift, Gainwell ended up leading the backfield with 62% of the snaps with 14 carries and 4 targets. Although the Eagles are a high-octane offense, they sputtered against the Patriots meaning once they get back to their former selves, Gainwell could flourish in the offense as a featured piece. Not only that with the current state of the injury riddled running back position, it’s always important to have good stashes on your bench.

Gus Edwards RB BAL: Rostered 21% (Sleeper)

*Deep sigh* J.K. Dobbins‘ bad luck with injuries continues and this Achilles tear may be the dagger in his career. So, who’s up next? In my mind between Justice Hill and Edwards he is the better pure runner of the two, despite Hill getting two touchdowns as I don’t see that continuing. Averaging around 5 yards per carry in his career I could see that translating well into this Ravens notorious rushing attack throughout the season. Be a little wary though, as free agents Leonard Fournette and Kareem Hunt could be picked up.
