Dynasty Advice: Should you be a buyer or a seller?

Is it time to push all the chips in or is it time to sell?

Do not get stuck in the middle.

Getting stuck in the middle is the worst thing you can do for your dynasty team. I am going to share what I do to help myself keep my teams straight. We all think our teams are good or all the players we draft are going to be good but sometimes we need to have a reality check. At this stage of the season, we really need to start being honest with ourselves.

Are you a top-4, middle-of-the-road, or a bottom-4 team? I am not talking about your record either. Some teams get fluke wins here and there throughout the season, so they are nice, but what I really look at is MAX PF (which is the maximum points your team could have scored so far). To check your MAX PF on MyFantasyLeague.com, go to Scores-Power Rank

Below is a graph of my 10 dynasty teams for this season as of right now.

The goal is to have a horseshoe—more teams on the ends and very few in the middle. My 5th place team just got Jonathan Taylor back and Diontae Johnson back soon so I am holding on hope with that team for another week or two. My 8th and 9th place team it is time to have a reality check and sell off some of my older players on those two teams.

What should you do if your dynasty team is in the middle?

If you are in the middle (ranked 5th-8th) it is time to either go all-in or sell some of your older players for younger ones or draft picks. If you are going all-in, then you should go after some older players who are still producing at a high level but might be on those bottom 4 teams in the league.

If you feel like you need a wide receiver, target guys like Mike Evans, Amari Cooper, Stefon Diggs, Tyreek Hill, Davante Adams, Adam Thielen, Keenan Allen, and DeAndre Hopkins. Guys that are around 29-30 can still produce at a high level.

If you need a running back, target a guy like David Montgomery who is cheaper than guys like Christian McCaffrey, Saquon Barkley, or even Austin Ekeler.

If your team is hurt like a lot of teams are and you are in the middle and you decide to sell, look at the other middle of the tier teams first and see if any of them are trying to be buyers and make a push for the playoffs. I know they say if you make the playoffs, you have a chance at the championship, but in reality how many of the 5 or 6 seeds win the tournament? I would sell older pieces before they crash and burn, and you cannot get much for them anymore.

Running backs overall peak between 24-26, but the greats do hold on a little longer. I would sell running backs who are 28 years old or older because they fall off that cliff fast. The running backs who are 27 are tricky and they depend on your roster and their injury history. For wide receivers, I would sell after their 28 seasons as they peak later between the ages of 25-28.  They do not seem to fall as fast as running backs, but they still hit a wall.
