Every Down Linebacker – Extra Team Notes
Arizona Cardinals
Mack Wilson is currently ahead of Krys Barnes in battle for 2nd linebacker spot.
Atlanta Falcons
Nate Landman and Troy Andersen will likely rotate. Andersen is currently listed as a starter on the depth chart.
Baltimore Ravens
Trenton Simpson is set for a larger role with Patrick Queen in Pittsburgh.
Buffalo Bills
Dorian Williams may get first crack at Matt Milano’s spot
Carolina Panthers
Tossup between Jewell and Thompson right now, Trevin Wallace drafted in 3rd round and looking good so far, he is the future
Chicago Bears
T.J. Edwards wore the green dot last year but Tremaine Edmunds has been wearing it in the preseason.
Cleveland Browns
Jordan Hicks has missed some practices and the most recent preseason game with an undisclosed injury.
Dallas Cowboys
Damone Clark, DeMarvion Overshown and Marist Liufau likely cut into each other’s snaps
Denver Broncos
Cody Barton has the leg up on Jonas Griffith for the second linebacker spot next to Alex Singleton.
Detroit Lions
Jack Campbell may take over the “green dot” this season, Alex Anzalone was in charge of defensive play calling last season.
Green Bay Packers
Rookie Edgerrin Cooper seems to be losing the LB2 battle right now
Houston Texans
Harris has missed a bunch of time, Henry To’oTo’o has been filling in
Indianapolis Colts
The Colts were able to produce two productive linebackers last season, Zaire Franklin and E.J. Speed. Speed finished strong after Shaq Leonard was cut.
Kansas City Chiefs
Tranquill is likely to be closer to 75% even with Willie Gay now in New Orleans
Los Angeles Chargers
Rookie Junior Colson still getting up to speed after missing time due to surgery to remove his appendix.
Los Angeles Rams
The Rams traded away Ernest Jones on Tuesday (8/27). They have used a lot of single-linebacker formations in the past and don’t appear to have an immediate successor. Omar Speights is an undrafted rookie that has flashed in the preseason, he could be the future and a great dynasty pickup, but he will need to earn his playing time. Jake Hummel wore the green dot in the preseason and could get the first crack at the starting spot. The Rams also have Christian Rozeboom and veteran Troy Reeder that could get in the mix.
Miami Dolphins
David Long wore green dot in 1st preaseason action. He got banged up in the second preseason game but was cleared to return.
Minnesota Vikings
Cashman had the green dot in the first preseason game and Pace off on a few plays; Pace had previously mentioned wearing green dot in an interview
New England Patriots
Tavai receives 3 year, $15m extension, may be closer to 75% snaps
New Orleans Saints
Pete Werner signs 3 year, $22.5m contract, solidifies LB2 over Wille Gay
New York Giants
McFadden (groin) expected back for Week 1, Isaiah Simmons has been filling in for him in the meantime.
Philadelphia Eagles
Nakobe Dean and Zack Baun battling for 2nd linebacker spot, Baun has been working mostly with the first team but Dean is coming on strong as the preseason progresses.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Elandon Roberts, Cole Holcomb and Payton Wilson will likely rotate in next to Patrick Queen.
Seattle Seahawks
Jerome Baker has missed some camp and rookie Tyrice Knight has worked himself into action, but Tyrel Dodson is the player I will be targeting in IDP leagues.
San Francisco 49ers
Dre Greenlaw likely to take over for De’Vondre Campbell when he returns healthy (Achilles). This is one of the few instances where you may want to handcuff your linebackers and put Greenlaw in your IR spot to start the season.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
With Devin White now in Philadelphia, K.J. Britt gets a chance to be the second linebacker and has already shown some strong leadership skills.
Tennessee Titans
The Titans make a blockbuster trade for Ernest Jones. He will likely take over the top spot from Kenneth Murray once he has learned the defense. Jack Gibbens was earning decent snaps in the preseason but he will likely be displaced by Kenneth Murray as the second linebacker. Murray could likely see close to everydown snaps, my best guess is around 90% once Jones gets up to speed.
Washington Commanders
Luvu will likely spend some time lined up at Edge, this will likely cut into his tackle production.
