IDP Waiver Wire for Week 2

IDP Waiver Wire – Week 2

Here are my waiver recommendations for Week 2. They are based on a IDP123 scoring system in a redraft league.  It’s important not to panic if you had a rough first fantasy matchup. Anomalies tend to even out over four months and it’s a long campaign.

Defensive Line

Keion White, Patriots

Bill Belichick is gone, but some of his defensive talent remains in Foxborough. Keion White looks like a breakout star after he terrorized Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow on Sunday. White secured four tackles (three solo), 2.5 sacks, and one forced fumble in the Patriots’ 16-10 upset win. That adds up to a massive IDP output of 32 points. Equally impressive was his 79% snap share that led all Patriot defensive linemen. White becomes even more valuable if you play in a DT-required league because that’s his “true position” designation on MFL. The 2nd year pro is rostered in 6% of leagues and if he happens to be in your free agent pool, grab him now while you can.

A’Shawn Robinson, Panthers

The Panthers are going to be really terrible again this season. That I am confident of after watching the Saints demolish them 47-10 in their opener. The IDP silver lining to that mediocrity is that with such an anemic offense, their defense should spend plenty of time on the field. I expect one of the biggest beneficiaries to be defensive tackle A’Shawn Robinson. He nabbed nine tackles (five solo) in Week 1. That number could be closer to his floor than ceiling, especially because teammate Derrick Brown may miss the rest of the season with a knee injury. So there’s a good chance Robinson’s 77% snap share rises in future weeks. He’s a flier that merits attention and is only taken in 3% of leagues.

Other options: Grady Jarrett (3%), Falcons

Linebackers

Zack Baun, Eagles

It was quite a surprise when news broke that Devin White was not making the trip to Brazil for the Eagles’ matchup versus the Packers. It was an even bigger surprise when Zack Baun played all 58 defensive snaps while posting a ridiculous stat line of 15 tackles (11 solo) and two sacks. Baun played in Vic Fangio’s hybrid linebacker/edge position that saw Andrew Van Ginkel’s rise to IDP stardom last season. Baun excelled in the role and there’s little reason to believe Philadelphia will bench him after a great performance. Sure, you shouldn’t expect all of those tackles, but his scoring ceiling is incredibly high and he is the number one priority this week. Only owned in 4% of MFL leagues and started in a mere 19% where he’s rostered, Baun is readily available for pickup.

Dorian Williams, Bills

Matt Milano unfortunately fell victim to a torn biceps injury and will likely miss most of the season. That opened the door for Dorian Williams to play next to Terrel Bernard as the other Buffalo starting linebacker. In the Bills’ Week 1 victory over the Cardinals, Williams saw 85% of snaps and finished with eight tackles (five solo) and one fumble recovery. That puts him on track for a spot as a LB2 or LB3 in most lineups. Williams certainly has enough talent and opportunity to be worth an IDP waiver claim.

Other options: DeMarvion Overshown (4%), Cowboys

Defensive Backs

Quentin Lake, Rams

Quentin Lake is starting at the “star” position which requires him to play in the slot and also stop the run, but for some reason almost nobody in IDP is rostering him. He was named a team captain, played all snaps, and rounded up 10 tackles (five solo) in Week 1. Sometimes we see defensive backs, who play the slot, come off the field in certain situation, but this does not appear to be the case for Lake. He is owned in less than 1% of leagues, Lake offers a decent safety option for those in need.

Keisean Nixon, Packers

Snoop Dogg’s “nephew” continues to shine as an all-around solid football player in Green Bay. Nixon appears to be the full-time nickel back again after holding off the competition this offseason. Nixon posted a respectable 69% snap share while racking up seven tackles (six solo), one sack, and one pass defended. For those in leagues that earn points for special teams yardage, he also returns both kicks and punts. He is rostered in 6% of leagues, which is the highest of anyone on this list, but still obtainable.

Other options: Tony Adams (4%), Jets; Nick Cross (2%), Colts; Juan Thornhill (3%), Browns
