IDP Waiver Wire – Week 9
This week’s waiver format is going to be abridged as I’m out of town on vacation. Don’t worry though because I’m still going to highlight the players worth adding in Week 9.
The numbers in parentheses next to the player’s name represent their ownership on Sleeper. Any scoring references will be in the IDP123 system.
Defensive Line
Azeez Ojulari (18%) was mentioned a couple weeks ago as a potential waiver addition. He hasn’t stopped sacking quarterbacks since. The sack total is up to five in three games. Ojulari is a great DL starter in all league formats at the moment. Maybe the Giants keep Thibodeaux out longer as their season spirals down the drain.
Haason Reddick (56%) ended his holdout and finally suited up for the Jets. Everybody in redraft leagues should double check to make sure that he’s not available. In shallower leagues, there’s a decent chance he’s out there.
Linebackers
Pete Werner (5%) returned from injury and slid back into his job as one of New Orleans’ starting linebackers. He saw 97% of snaps and made nine tackles (seven solo). Thankfully, Dennis Allen did not turn this into a messy rotation with Demario Davis and Willie Gay Jr.
The Browns linebacker depth took another hit this week. Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah suffered a neck injury. Jordan Hicks was already out. Mohamoud Diabate (<1%) played the most snaps at the position (87%) and would be in line for an increased role if either player misses more time. He’s a deep league pickup for those that need LB help.
Baylon Spector (11%) is also back in play. Terrel Bernard missed the Week 8 game versus Seattle with a pectoral injury. Spector is the direct replacement and was on the field the entire game. He’s a streamer option if Bernard is a no-go for a second consecutive week.
Ernest Jones surprisingly was traded for the second time this season. His departure from the Titans opened up a starting linebacker job next to Kenneth Murray. Jack Gibbens (2%) got the first crack at it and played 100% of snaps. He finished the loss to Detroit with eight tackles (4 solo). I am interested to see if Gibbens can hold off newly-acquired Jerome Baker for the second linebacker position.
Defensive Backs
Here are a couple DBs that I’m happy to play in pretty much any format.
Falcons’ cornerback A.J. Terrell (2%) has scored double digit fantasy points in six of eight games this season. He plays close to every defensive snap and sees enough targets to be IDP relevant. He’s available in virtually every league that doesn’t have 32 teams.
Broncos’ nickelback Ja’Quan McMillian (8%) provides either a decent amount of tackles or a splash play (turnovers) on a weekly basis. He has double digit points in five of eight games. His playtime does fluctuate from 70-90% depending on personnel from opposing teams, but it hasn’t impacted his IDP value this year.
