Waiver Wire Adds for Offense – Week 5

Waiver Wire Adds for Offense – Week 5

Ryan Odell and Stephen Chalmers

Can’t believe week 4 is already over. But it’s Stephen and Ryan back again with another installment of waiver wire adds week 5 edition. Injuries continue to be a massive part of the NFL week in and week out, so here’s a few guys you should be putting waiver claims in for or spending FAAB dollars.

Week 5 Byes: Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles Chargers, Seattle Seahawks and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Jaleel McLaughlin (DEN-RB)

Javonte Williams suffered a hip flexor in the Chicago game. We’re looking at him missing 1-2 weeks. I’ve been asked about Samaje Perine and why shouldn’t we spend money on him? Here’s why, McLaughlin is the more explosive guy. With his 10 touches last week he produced 104 scrimmage yards while Perine produced 35. Sean Payton talked about how well McLaughlin played and how explosive he looked. He’s the guy to buy.

Jonnu Smith (ATL-TE)

I hate to say it but as long as Arthur Smith is in town, the Kyle Pitts experiment is a failure. But none the less, through 4 weeks Jonnu Smith leads the Falcons in receiving yards and is top three in almost every category including targets, catches, and Yards-per-target. This offense isn’t exciting but if you’re thin at tight end depth or are looking for a tight end to start, he’s a solid option.

Jayden Reed (GB-WR)

Still only owned in 24% of all leagues in different formats, Jayden Reed is a sneaky waiver wire add. 20 targets across his last three games are numbers you just can’t ignore. Yes we know Christian Watson is still getting back up to speed and Romeo Doubs looks like the number one option for Jordan Love. But the next three matchups for the Packers include the Las Vegas Raiders, the Denver Broncos, and the Minnesota Vikings. I want all parts of these matchups. Pick up Jayden Reed

Cole Kmet (CHI-TE)

I’ve already mentioned one Tight End in this article but I’m feeling spicy today. Let’s mention two. Cole Kmet is currently number 3 for tight ends and number 86 on the player rater. He was a massive buy this off-season with his touchdown upside. But the volume he’s seen over the first four weeks is something I didn’t expect. He’s on pace for 102 targets this year. Which would be the most of his career so far. D.J. Moore and Kmet are the only pass catchers I trust for Chicago at the moment. He’s a great pick up this week.

Jameson Williams (DET-WR)

I know I know. He’s been suspended this year. An ACL tear last year limited Williams and he didn’t do much outside of a 40-yard touchdown catch in one game. But with Jameson Williams back he adds an extra dimension to this offense that the Lions don’t currently have. Remember what he did at Alabama in 2021. 1541 receiving yards, 15 TDs, and a 143 passer rating when targeted. Put a claim in for him. It could take a week or two to get him to game speed but don’t sweat that.

These are the guys that we think are the most important waiver wire adds heading into week 5. As always have a good week, put those claims in, and let’s go get some Ws!
